BMW 520i E28

The base for this project is a 1983 BMW 520i E28. I bought the car on April 26 2012 from a man who imported the car from Switzerland himself just 2 months ago. He was the 6th owner and that made me the proud 7th owner.

Originally the car came on the stunning TRX-I rims with the horrible TRX tires. But happily the seller agreed to sell it on 15 inch style 5 wheels from an E34. Too bad the tires were the wrong size: 225/60R15 in stead of 205/60R15.

In the time I got it, several things have been replaced. I won’t bother you with all the details about the repairs but I’ll give you a list (in chronological order) of what’s changed:

  • almost new M-Tech steering wheel (with the “coarse spline”)

  • new crankcase vacuum hoses
  • new Monroe shocks at the front
  • new wheel hub and bearing right front
  • almost new Sebring end muffler
  • new light bulbs behind the light switches
  • new rear (drum)brake shoes
  • new middle silencer
  • new thermostat
  • new gasket between throttle body and inlet manifold
  • new clutch and pressure plate
  • new gearbox spline bearing
  • new gearbox oil
  • new lowering springs (F -5, R -3.5)
  • almost new driver seat cover
  • complete rear axle with disc brakes from a 525e
  • new brake line left rear
  • superb looking BBS RC 090’s with black anodized bolts
  • new Goodyear Efficient Grip Performance tires, 225/45R17 91W
  • new front sway bar linkage bars
  • new sway bar bushings
  • new window rubbers, both front doors
  • new sunroof gaskets
  • new “dog bones”
  • again a new left rear light (due to damage)
  • new waterpump
  • almost new rear bumper left corner
  • very neat brown rear shelf
  • new rubber bushings on top and below the springs
  • new top mounts (on top of the front springs) (E90)
  • new upper shock mounts
  • new air filter
  • new lower control arm bushings
  • again new oil
  • again new spark plugs
  • new chrome trims around front and rear windows
  • new Bilstein B8 shock absorbers at the front
  • new fuel pump
  • refurbished 535i brakes and discs
  • almost brand new set of winter tires on steel rims, 205/60R15
